Luminary Pre Professional
PROGRAMS

MCCA offers a full pre-professional training program. This Performance Arts School is for the student dedicated pursuing a professional career in the performing arts or college, or the student who wants to be challenged. This structured track is designed to enhance the students technical advancement, build artistry, and prepare them for the professional world. Instructor permission is required for pre-professional classes. Students interested in registering for the pre-professional program should fill out a form! MCCA’s program coordinator, Jamie McGreevy will email you to set up a consultation.
Luminary Level 1 (Trailblazers)
Luminary Level 1 (Trailblazers) Recommended Grades 1-3
90 mins per week of Ballet, Tap and Jazz, and physical fitness. In addition to technical achievements dancers develop discipline, accountability, respect, focus, self-motivation, & self-care.
Prerequisites:
o Minimum of 1 year prior dance training
o Preliminary Tap Skills: toe tap, heel dig, shuffle
o Preliminary Ballet/Jazz skills: rising on top balls of the feet, pointing and flexing of feet
o Flexibility: seated forward bend hands touching ankles
o Ability to focus and follow direction for extended time
If the student is not able to meet these guidelines during the first class of the semester the teacher will give options for a more suitable class that will better support the students training.
Wednesday 4:30pm to 6:00pm
Grades 1-3
Luminary Level 2 (Dream Chasers)
Luminary Level 2 (Dream Chasers) Recommended Grades 4-6
60 mins per week of intermediate/advanced beginner Tap and Jazz, and physical fitness. In addition to technical achievements dancers develop discipline, accountability, respect, focus, self-motivation, & self-care.
Prerequisites:
o Minimum of 1 year prior dance experience
o Execute a single pirouette with moderate accuracy (in releve, passe connected, attempted spot and posture)
o Basic knowledge of beginner Tap and Jazz skills, vocabulary, and theory.
o Ability to maintain posture while executing grande battement to 90 degrees.
o Ability to balance in a posse position on flat support without wobble.
If the student is not able to meet these guidelines during the first class of the semester the teacher will give options for a more suitable class that will better support the students training.
Tuesday 4:30pm to 5:30pm
Grades 4-6
Luminary Contemporary Level 3 (Rising Star)
Luminary Contemporary Level 3 (Grades 5-8)
Intermediate class provides students with a progressive exploration of movement qualities and patterns typical of contemporary dance - falling and recovering, spiraling, contracting and releasing, leaning and tilting - whilst encouraging learners to discover and develop their own individuality in the technical and artistic execution.
Prerequisites:
o Minimum of 2 years in ballet or jazz technical training or be currently enrolled in a technique class
o Right split flat, left and middle within 8”
o Execute grande plie in 1st, 2nd, and 4th in center with minimal struggle
o Right side leg hold with ease
o Ability to pickup movement and detail at a moderate tempo with ease.
If the student is not able to meet these guidelines during the first class of the semester the teacher will give options for a more suitable class that will better support the students training.
Monday 4:30-5:30
Grades 6-12
Luminary Jazz Level 3 (Rising Stars)
Luminary Level 3 Jazz (Rising Star) recommended grades 6-12
60 mins per week of intermediate advanced Jazz technique, and physical fitness. Dancers develop techinque, discipline, accountability, respect, self-motivation, & self-care.
Prerequisites:
o Execute a technically sound double pirouette (posture, placement, 2 full revolutions, 2 clean spots, accuracy and control)
o Thorough knowledge and execution of beginner Jazz skills, vocabulary, and theory.
o Ability to maintain posture while executing grande battement above 90 degrees.
o Ability to balance in a posse position on releve without wobble.
o Execute a minimum of 45 eleves without stop or wobble
o Right split flat, left and middle within 8”
o Ability to pick-up new material in a progressive class setting
If the student is not able to meet these guidelines during the first class of the semester the teacher will give options for a more suitable class that will better support the students training.
Monday 5:30-6:30
Grades 6-12
Luminary Tap Level 3 (Rising Stars)
Luminary Level 3 Tap (Rising Star) recommended grades 6-12
60 mins per week of intermediate tap technique, and physical fitness. Students will work each week on patterns and combinations, continuing to build muscle memory and consistency. In addition to technical achievements dancers develop discipline, accountability, respect, focus, self-motivation, & self-care.
Prerequisites:
o Thorough understanding of beginner skills, technique, and theory
o Intermediate understanding of weight placement, posture, spatial awareness and musicality
o Execution of Wing (two feet), single pullback (two feet), Buck time Step (1,2,3), Drawbacks (1, 2,3)
o Ability to pick-up new material in a progressive class setting
If the student is not able to meet these guidelines during the first class of the semester the teacher will give options for a more suitable class that will better support the students training.
Wednesday 7:15pm-8:15pm
Grades 6-12
Luminary Ballet Levels 3/4 (RS & Protege)
Luminary Ballet 3 / 4 (Recommended grades 5-12 )
60 min Int-adv technique focusing on proper posture, body positions, across the floor, and center work focusing on technique, theory and musicality.
Prerequisites:
o Execute a technically sound double pirouette (ballet posture, placement, 2 full revolutions, 2 clean spots, accuracy and control)
o Thorough knowledge and execution of beginner skills, vocabulary, and theory.
o Ability to maintain posture while executing grande battement above 90 degrees.
o Ability to balance in a posse position on releve without wobble.
o Execute a minimum of 45 eleves without stop or wobble
o Ability to execute grande plie with ease in all positions with posture and control
o Ability to pick-up new material in a progressive class setting
If the student is not able to meet these guidelines during the first class of the semester the teacher will give options for a more suitable class to support the students training.
Monday 6:30-7:30
Grades 6-12
Luminary Contemporary Level 4
Luminary Contemporary Level 4 (Grades 9-12)
Advanced class provides students with a progressive complex exploration of movement qualities and patterns typical of contemporary dance - falling and recovering, spiraling, contracting and releasing, leaning and tilting - whilst encouraging learners to discover and develop their own individuality in the technical and artistic execution.
Prerequisites:
o Minimum of 3 years in ballet or jazz technical training or be currently enrolled in a technique class
o Right and left split flat, middle within 4”
o Execute grande plie in 1st, 2nd, and 4th in center with minimal struggle
o Right/Left side leg hold with ease
o Ability to pickup movement and detail at a rapid tempo with ease.
If the student is not able to meet these guidelines during the first class of the semester the teacher will give options for a more suitable class that will better support the students training.
Monday 7:30-8:30
Grades 9-12
Luminary Jazz Level 4 (Protege)
Luminary Level 4 Jazz (Protege) recommended grades 6-12
60 mins per week of advanced Jazz technique, and physical fitness. Dancers develop discipline, accountability, respect, self-motivation, & self-care.
Prerequisites:
o Execute a technically sound triple pirouette (posture, placement, 3 full revolutions, 3 clean spots, accuracy and control)
o Thorough knowledge and execution of beginner and intermediate Jazz skills, vocabulary, and theory.
o Ability to maintain posture while executing grande battement above 120 degrees.
o Ability to balance in a posse position without wobble and execute 20 releve
o Execute technically accurate grande jete
o Right split flat, left and middle within 4”
o Ability to pick up complex concepts and techniques in rapid paced class
If the student is not able to meet these guidelines during the first class of the semester the teacher will give options for a more suitable class that will better support the students training.
