THE 24 HOUR PROJECT!

Hey MCCA Family!

We are so excited to kick off the Fall 2022 Semester and to see you in class next week! Along with our selection of regular classes, we are thrilled to offer a few additional performance opportunities this Fall. First up - THE 24 HOUR PROJECT!

The question I’ve gotten most often in the last few weeks - “What the heck is a 24 Hour Project?!” I am here to answer your questions and provide as much information as I can to get you excited about this awesome performance opportunity.

WHAT IS THE 24 HOUR PROJECT?

Well, it’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like. We will produce a performance project in only 24 hours! This particular performance will be a One-Act Play Festival. MCCA Staff, Directors, Stage Managers and Actors will work in teams to produce four short One-Act Plays in a whirlwind audition and rehearsal process. Teams will then perform their play for an audience exactly 24 hours after auditions started. It’s a fun and exciting way to put on a show!

WHEN & WHERE?

The 24 Hour Project will take place at MCCA, beginning at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 15th. It will conclude with the One-Act Play Festival Performance at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 16th.

WHAT IS A ONE-ACT PLAY?

A One-Act play is a short play, fully scripted, that tells an entire story in a shorter amount of time. We will use plays that run no longer than 20 minutes and are not musicals.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?
We need Writers, Directors, Stage Managers and Actors for the 24 Hour Project!

  1. WRITERS: If you have written a short play that you would like us to consider for the 24 Hour Project, please submit it to Jacki at jacki@mymcca.com by September 12th. Writers can be MCCA students, alumni, staff or local community members ages 15 and up. Writers may also apply to direct their own play if desired. All plays must run under 20 minutes and be family friendly!

  2. DIRECTORS/STAGE MANAGERS: Each of the four One-Act plays will need a Director and a Stage Manager. These positions are open to MCCA Students, Alumni, staff or local community members ages 15-20. Directors & Stage Managers will be responsible for casting their play, rehearsing & staging, and running a tech rehearsal prior to performance. Applications for Directors/Stage Managers will open on September 19th & be due by October 1st.

  3. ACTORS: We need plenty of actors to cast in our four plays! Acting opportunities will be open to anyone ages 12-20. We are looking for excited, energetic performers who are ready to memorize lines quickly! Sign-up for Actors will open on September 19th and be open until October 10th.

WILL WE REALLY STAY AT MCCA FOR 24 HOURS STRAIGHT?!

YES! It will be a lock-in/sleepover event where all participants will stay at MCCA for the full 24 hours, with supervision from the MCCA Staff at all times. Meals & snacks will be provided, and participants will need to bring an overnight bag, including a sleeping bag, blankets, pillow, etc.

IS THERE A FEE TO PARTICIPATE?

All Directors, Stage Managers and Actors will pay a $30 fee to participate in the 24 Hour Project to help cover food/drinks, chaperones & production expenses.

CAN MY FAMILY & FRIENDS COME AND SEE THE PERFORMANCE?

Absolutely! The performance of the One-Act Play Festival will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 16th in MCCA’s Studio 4. Tickets will be available at the door!

I’M NOT A CURRENT MCCA STUDENT - CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?

Yes! This event is open to anyone interested, within the age ranges listed above. The more the merrier! The fall season is so busy with sports and other things - this is a GREAT way to still perform even if you are busy and can’t commit to a full class this session.

Have additional questions about the 24 Hour Project? Email me at jacki@mymcca.com for more information. We hope you will join us in this 24-hour adventure! It’s going to be a memorable experience for all. Wishing you all a wonderful first week of classes!

XOXO, Jacki Dixon
