We are so excited for our Spring Session 1 classes to begin in just a few weeks! Among the many amazing classes we have to offer, we are particularly excited for our Spring Musical, Mary Poppins Jr! Spring musicals have been a staple of the MCCA Season for a number of years now. Starting back in 2019, our first spring musical was Fame Jr., followed by Legally Blonde Jr. and The Music Man Jr. Last year, we took a quick break from Broadway Junior shows to hold our 10th Anniversary Concert, which was a wonderful celebration of all 23 musicals that MCCA has produced in our first 10 years.
We are beyond thrilled to bring the Spring Musical back this year with Mary Poppins Jr! This performance class is available to students in grades 3-12, regardless of experience. Everyone who registers will be cast in the show! Auditions for roles will be held on January 24th from 4:30-8:00 pm with callbacks, if needed, on Saturday, January 25th from 9 am-12 pm. Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:45-7:45 pm beginning January 28th, and performances will be held the weekend of May 2nd-4th. REGISTER BY JANUARY 20TH TO JOIN THE FUN!
WHAT MAKES AN MCCA MUSICAL SPECIAL?
There are any number of benefits to participating in a musical at MCCA!
Consistent Rehearsal Schedule: With Mary Poppins Jr. being held as a class in our Spring semester, rehearsals are on a set Tuesday/Thursday schedule for the entire cast. While select Saturdays may be utilized, a full rehearsal schedule will be sent in advance so you know exactly what to expect between now and May!
Cast Bonding and Ensemble Building: One of the joys of the set class schedule is that the full cast is together for every rehearsal! This ensemble-building model helps to promote unity and teamwork and allows our cast members to bond and make lasting friendships and memories.
Accelerated Training: Our goal with every show is to enrich and enhance students’ skills in acting, music, dance, audition technique, and rehearsal etiquette. In addition to preparing for the performance, students will receive invaluable instruction and technical experience that will serve them in both their MCCA experiences and outside endeavors.
Qualified and Motivated Leadership: The MCCA staff brings decades of experience to every MCCA musical. The Mary Poppins Jr. team is no exception! Director/Choreographer Coty Forno is the founder & CEO of MCCA and has served as director for the majority of musicals that MCCA has produced. Music Director Shelby Herbert is the program coordinator for our musical theatre program and has led the musical instruction for almost all of MCCA’s past productions. Together, Coty and Shelby have led our Pre-Professional Junior Theatre Festival program since its inception. As assistant choreographer and stage manager, Quinn Stark brings a unique perspective to the team. Quinn has participated in a number of MCCA musicals - first as a student, and more recently as a member of the creative team for Legally Blonde Jr. and the 10th Anniversary Concert. This dedicated team is ready to bring Mary Poppins Jr. to life and is so excited to work with all of our students!
The MCCA Philosophy: Our goal is to create a positive and brave environment where students are free to take risks, be their true selves, and embrace the uniqueness of those around them. We strive to nurture our young performers and to help them grow into creative, collaborative, compassionate, professional, kind, and hard-working young adults. We hope to assemble a cast that recognizes the unique individual and celebrates the commonality of the love of performing. Our focus is to lead with fun & kindness and to keep MCCA’s “Yes I Can, Yes I Will, Yes I Am” attitude at the forefront.
We look forward to making musical theatre magic with you this spring! If your student is interested in registering for this fun and unique opportunity, please click here for information and registration: https://www.mymcca.com/performanceclass
